Is Your Home's Plumbing System Happy? 

This is something most homeowners probably never think about. We are so use to having our home plumbing function whether we turn on the faucet for either cold or hot water or flush the toilet expecting everything to just disappear. Most folks never think about plumbing problems until they are in the shower and have no hot water or they go to use the garbage disposal and they realize the kitchen sink is stopped up or walk out into the garage and find their leaking hot water heater has soaked all the boxes they never unpacked.

A plumbing system want's to be happy. This means that it must have use and maintenance. Think of a swimming pool, the pump and filter will get most of the dust and debris while filtering the water however, it will never get all of the leaves and excess dirt off the bottom unless there is someone swimming in it which stirs up the water for better filtration. This makes for cleaner and clear water.

Our plumbing systems require the same. If a toilet sits without use, things just seem to start growing which tends to clog up the important parts of the toilet that make it function properly. The same can happen to a hot water heater without the proper flushing and maintenance. If you have a floor drain or a bathtub or even a shower or sink in your bathroom that doesn't get used or maintained for any length of time, the plumbing drain pipes will dry out and you will start to experience a foul smelling sewer odor.

Keep your plumbing system happy by using it properly and getting it inspected by a professional plumber atleast once every year or so. Plumbing problems never seem to happen when it's "convenient" for the homeowner. Plumbing issues always happen when you have just prepared that formal dinner for special guests or your mother in law has announced she decided to stay for a few days.
